We successfully conducted the first day of the Residential Training for Leader Farmers from Sunkoshi, Melamchi and Balefi Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchok District under the PIWAAI Project funded by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan and jointly implemented by PWJ and ISAP. This three day training is conducted with an aim to increase the technical knowledge of the leader farmers for them to be able to replicate this information to their respective farmer group members in their community. A leader farmer with sound technical knowledge shall have crucial role in making PIWAAI sustainable as the fellow farmers would routinely receive technical solutions to their problem even after project terminates.
28 leader farmers were present along with the Project Team and resource persons. The first day of the training began with an introduction of the participants followed by shedding light on the training objectives. Team Leader of PWJ, Dr. Ram Chandra Bhusal discussed about Social Mobilization and the role of Leader Farmer in the group and community. Another session on the vegetable nursery establishment and management, the importance of off-season vegetable crop and cultivation technology, and all about compost management was held by the project team. Our first resource person for the day, Dr. Kedar Budathoki, Senior Scientist facilitated a session on the importance of off-season vegetable crop and cultivation technology, along with cultivation technology of plastic house tomato, and its major problems and solutions.
During all the sessions, participants were actively interactive with the facilitators to clarify their doubts and queries. Leader farmers are highly anticipating to learning more in the next two days.
