Markets and market access play an important role in improving the incomes of smallholder farmers. To make an improved market access for the promotion of our farmers’ agricultural products, a collection center is going to be established at three points, Balefi, Sunkoshi and Melamchi under Project for Improving Water Access and Agriculture Income (PIWAAI).
The collection centers will operate for the convenience of the farmers. All the products of the farmers from all farmer’s groups in Balefi, Sunkoshi and Melamchi will bring their products to their respective collection centers. The Marketing Planning Committee develops marketing strategies and tools and become a bridge between farmers and markets nearby such as Melamchi, Chautara, Tipeni, Barhabise, and other areas.
Farmers will not have to worry about marketing their vegetables as an improved marketing channel is established. They will also get to sell their products at fair rates, which will motivate them to upscale their current farming practices.
