Introducing Farmers with Information and Communication Technology in Agriculture:
Apart from our regular activities, considering our beneficiary farmer's interest and rising need for information and communication technology in the field of agriculture SAFII team organized one-day training on the basic use of ICT in Agriculture for selected participant farmers at Melchaur, Sindhupalchowk on October 21, 2019. The training included the basic use of smartphones for agriculture purposes. Selected beneficiaries having a smartphone and internet access were facilitated on checking the weather forecasts for irrigation, pesticide application and other agricultural operations. Similarly, they were facilitated on checking websites for daily vegetable market prices for e.g., the daily market price of Kalimati Vegetable Market. Farmers were guided on using different applications for packages and practices of different crops along with their respective disease diagnosis and pest identification with their appropriate management strategies. They were also provided information on different toll-free numbers where they can raise their problems regarding agriculture. Even if some of the farmers have access to these facilities they were unaware of a method to use it. We found our farmers very much interested to learn these all technology and implement in their farming practices. With this success, the SAFII team is planning to conduct this training on a big scale in the next phase of the project.
