For us accustomed to the urban lifestyle, the thought of having to walk half an hour or more to reach to the nearest source of water is no less than a nightmare.
A nightmare for the most of us, was a harsh reality for the people like Mr. Ram Bahadur Nepali of Ratamate Dada- Sunkoshi Rural Municipality 06, Sindhupalchowk. Before ISAP's intervention all the households in the community depended on spring water to meet their daily demand of water. Like Nepali, everyone in the community had to walk more than half an hour to reach to the nearest source which often ended in having to wait in a long queue of familiar faces who made the walk before them. Now, after the construction of a reserve tank and installation of three public taps in their own community, the people at Ratamate Dada no longer have to spend most of their time fetching water and can invest their energy in other activities. With the increased access to drinking water, Nepali and other members of his community intend to get into vegetable production which was not possible for them earlier.
