Despite the gender-biased constraints, women farmers in Nepal have stepped up to the challenge of playing the role of a breadwinner. PIWAAI project has helped build household tap stands in Sunkoshi and Balefi Rural Municipality, and Melamchi municipality of Sindhupalchok district making it possible for women farmers to have access to water closer to their homes and increase crop production. The project has also encouraged women to fulfill leadership positions and offer them opportunity to participate in trainings. This has paved way for women in the area to receive equal opportunities and financial independence.
“Women farmers are incredible catalysts for social and economic change — and this work helps them build their resilience and make a difference for many seasons and generations to come." Read an article written by Heifer International about the importance of women farmers in agriculture.
