18 August 2023 was a momentous occasion for the people of Balefi Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchok as the water supply systems constructed by the “Project for Improving Water Access and Agriculture Income” funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan, and jointly implemented by Peace Winds Japan and ISAP was inaugurated and handed over to the Balefi Rural Municipality. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of H.E. Mr. KIKUTA Yutaka, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, alongside the Honorable Member of Parliament, Mr. Madhab Prasad Sapkota.
In this gathering marked by significance, the program witnessed the participation of numerous dignitaries, notably the local government representatives, along with the beneficiaries from Balefi and Sunkoshi Rural Municipality. The program was set about by the Executive Director of ISAP, Ms. Apekshya Bhusal who shared the project’s three-year achievements of supplying water from 14 Water Supply Systems, out of which 1 is the Dadakateri Solar Lifting Water Supply Scheme, and the other being the monumental Tharthan Khola Karangaira Dadagaun Kole Electrical Lifting Water Supply System to 501 taps for each household.
Ambassador Kikuta extended his heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to all those who had been instrumental in the efforts to make water available to the people of Sindhupalchok. Expressing his optimism, Ambassador Kikuta envisaged these water supply facilities to be an invaluable community asset, fostering regional development. He emphasized the importance of collective effort for the sustained impact of the project, portraying it as a gift symbolizing the strong Nepal- Japan relations.
Mr. Madhab Prasad Sapkota, Honorable Member of Parliament, voiced gratitude and affirmed the government of Nepal’s commitment to responsibly operate the newly established water supply systems for long-term sustainability. He conveyed his appreciation on behalf of the government of Nepal for Japan’s assistance in this endeavor.
Mr. Ganga Bahadur Tamang, Chairperson of Balefi Rural Municipality, reiterated his dedication to ensuring the effective management of the water supply systems and focusing on sustainability to ensure they become a cornerstone of the community’s progress. He expressed how he envisions tangible benefits that will uplift and better the lives of the community.
The three-year project is handed over to the local government and holds paramount significance in shaping its course. The local authorities’ deep understanding of the community needs can ensure the project’s lasting benefits by making decisions that truly serve the people and their future.
